Brake Band B1, MB part numbers interchangeability? 1262701662 vs 1262701862

    Cheers all!

Could anyone confirm or deny that the part numbers are interchangeable parts for 722.3 brake band please? 1262701662 vs 1262701862? I'm looking through the online catalogs and finding nothing in the US, but many available in Europe. I'm hoping that 1662 was replaced 1862?

And if so, if these are interchangeable, is there any disadvantages to buying this original MB A1262701662 (being new old stock) for rebuilding my tired 722.364?

    Regards,
    D

Thank you Dave, this is perfect!

Now, how does one get access to EPC? I'm guessing it is not generally open to public? The only way I know how to look up parts are through any dealer that has online ordering system such as https://parts.rbmofatlanta.com/ I've plugged in that early part number, and returned no results.

    D

You can still buy access online from MB (click here), $75 annual fee. However, since the EPC is being replaced by a new system (XPISS, click here) it's unclear if/when MB will migrate the online access to the new system.

Another option is to buy one of the bootleg EPC's from eBay, that you can install on your local PC. Most are virtual containers that are platform-agnostic, if you want a native Windows installer it will take some hunting. The native install runs faster, I leave mine up all the time. More details here:

There are some online EPC's, mostly Russian, and mostly either difficult to use and/or incomplete:

Interesting info indeed, appreciate the details! I always thought that I WAS looking at EPC, I guess not! This one (from the thread mentioned) would work for me, http://www.auto-parts.spb.ru/cat/cat...&client=dr2000 and indeed shows the interchange numbers of these B1 bands!

It translates fairly well, but I'm ok with Russian too...

I did order that New Old Stock B1 band, saves me $270 and it is original MB part. Almost have all that I need for the rebuild. Thanks again for the info, appreciate it!

    D

The EPC has saved me hours of looking up part numbers and is well worth the $75 even though I am not very proficient with its use.

Gerry has a "how to" EPC 101:

Indeed, excellent tutorial, if I was to get that EPC, would use it for sure, but since it's moving to a different platform, I'll wait this one out for now...

The "supercessions" are only what is in the EPC, as this website is just another online export of the EPC data (minus footnotes, as mentioned above). There may still be supercessions in Paragon (MB's internal inventory system), some of which will appear on the RevolutionParts dealer websites (Naperville, Husker, MB Portland, etc) but there's no way to confirm without either contacting a dealer directly, or placing an order. There is absolutely no online access to Paragon for end-users, only dealers can access this via the MB internal network. Some related info is in this thread.

Re: Brake Band B1, MB part numbers interchangeability? 1262701662 vs 1262701862

I can certainly see your point! While it is considerably better than some, it almost seem that one would have to as you said, call the dealership to verify, or enter the part number at the dealer site for parts ordering, while selecting your specific car, and a cross reference with the new part comes up. Just had to run a check on the updated Flex Disc...

I noticed that while looked new, if I inserted a screw driver into the holes with the sleeve, and bend it a little - cracks at each crease, not visible otherwise. Did the search, 129-411-00-15 is the original part, and IS replaced now, which is not shown at all in the https://nemigaparts.com/cat_spares/epc/mercedes/ however, the same catalog lists 129-410-01-15 for complete new part (and no mention of the old one)...

This will do for now, but in the future, new EPC is certainly a consideration.

    D

I think you can get those relined for a lot less than new.

    Cheers!

The front one, new old stock ended up being only $40 with free shipping (compare to list $310), I couldn't pass it up. The rear band is relined to the factory core, from wittrans.com, it was only $59 (+$15 core), fine for my budget, I was told that is what most shops for overhaul.
