    1991 Mercedes Benz 500E - Low Miles - RARE - by Porsche

"Used Vehicle - 27 Years OldOnce of the Nicest Examples You May Find! This is a Perfect Everyday Driver - a 500E to Absolutely have a Blast with!”

If your looking for one of these cars, you probably know what they are all about. I do not want to bore anyone with obvious options, etc., but just the facts about this particular example.

    Offered for Sale

    VIN: WDB1240361B568235 - Japanese VIN

    Kilometers - 121,000
    Miles - 75,125

1991 Mercedes Benz 500E finished in "Black Pearl Metallic" # 9900 & "Alto Grey Matte Metallic" Code # 7100. Overall Dual Paint Code # 300010. 1991 was not a year they were offered in North America, but they were in Europe and Japan. Very early production Porsche built Mercedes Benz 500E.

In Japan, where this car originated, this was an Absolute Status Symbol. Sleek, Successful and a total Sleeper. It is a Rare Japanese car that was Imported into Vancouver B.C. Canada in 2006 and remained there until my purchase in 2018.

Exterior is very perfect for a car of this age. Panels are mostly dent free. I do not see any dents, but do not want to say that there is not one minor one that I cannot see. Paint is in great condition, shines and has great depth. Had the exterior professional detailed at Park Place Motors LTD in Bellevue. The best place you can take a car for a complete detail.

Interior is finished in "Grey Leather" Sport Seats which is soft and supple. Seams are not split or torn. Minor wear on drivers seat base bolster. Very normal for this type of seat in this color. Head liner is perfectly in tact, dash is not cracked, and wood trim is in exceptional condition. Interior was detailed by Park Place Motors LTD.

There is nothing that I can say that the car needs. Runs and drives absolutely perfect. Air Conditioning Blows Cold, all power options work as they should, etc. I installed new Continental DWS06 tires within the last month.

Frank Schmidt at Schmidt Automotive in Bellevue; whom is the best trained German Mercedes Mechanic around performed all of the servicing on the car so that the next owner has not much to worry about. Car did not have any records, so I had everything gone through to make sure its as perfect as I can make it.

Options that may be different from some U.S. / European Models. Clima-tronic with Manual Controls, European one piece glass head lights with washers, adjustable head lights, heated seats, etc. These are the main differences. All others items, such as sunroof, power seats, etc. are standard.

Check out the Web Site - datamb.com Plug in the VIN and you can at no charge see all of the build sheet.

In my opinion, this is one of the nicest examples I have every seen in years. I have owned one years before when they were much newer, and this one is still nicer. You will absolutely like it!

If there are any questions, please do email with your contact information and I will promptly call you back.

    Cheers

This one looks to be well kept. It's interesting that such an early build does not have the "early" steering wheel we see so often with US cars.

Good catch, Drew. This car had the steering wheel replaced. The "triangle" steering wheel didn't appear until roughly later 1991 production (mid-1992 USA model year). June 1991, when this car was built, would have had a 390mm wheel with "standard" airbag. I prefer the late style, but anyone picky about originality would want to convert it back to stock, if you could find the early wheel (pretty rare bird).

Some strange things for a Japan-spec car. I thought all Japan market cars had side indicators on the fenders. Maybe those have been replaced? Also, I'm not sure about this, but I don't recall seeing a Japan-spec car with the Euro style manual climate control. Pity that the picture of the instrument cluster doesn't show the far right light. If it's a CEL light, then not Japan market. Japan had an EXH TEMP (Exhaust Temp) light. Also if you zoom in to the picture that has the shifter at the bottom right, you can see that the writing in the sticker below the picture is not Japanese. German I think.

So looks like a Euro spec car. Maybe imported to Japan at some point though.

Also, if it came from Japan and hasn't had the headlight lenses replaced, which it probably hasn't considering availability, they will be designed for right hand drive markets.

Yeah, the seller goofed on that. The car was originally delivered in Germany, then was exported to Japan, and then from Japan to USA. Should have the engine oil cooler too (not found on Japan-spec cars). CEL is USA only, EXH TEMP is Japan only, you can see in the cluster that space is blank... another indicator of a Euro-spec car, not Japan-spec.

Headlight lenses are a legitimate concern, btw... if it has wrong-hand-drive Japan lenses, it will be hard to get the correct ones.

Ah, I was thinking there is supposed to be a blank there but now realized I'm more used to driving my wagon which doesn't have ASR so has a blank.

Man I want this thing. Judging from the photos, this car is located less than a mile away from my house. If anyone is seriously interested, I can message the seller and see if he’ll let me take a look.

Long time looker, 1st time poster as I am getting close to pulling the trigger on a 500E. I reached out to seller to better understand how he managed to register a car with license plates ending with TMZ. Those plates were issued in WA in mid 2000s and it has been a while since we switched to 7 character plates. He is clearly trying to flip this car but I want to make sure that it is legally registered in the state.

Its at a dealership. If you have six character plates from back in the day, you don't have to upgrade to seven character plate, nothing out of the ordinary here.

Except the fact that the car got imported from Vancouver BC in 2018 and there is NO WAY to get 6 digit plates in WA in 2018 for a car that is being registered here for the 1st time.

If it was a long term ownership, I agree with you (even though that has now changed as well)

Older cars I my collection still have the 6 digit plates which now go away once the plates hit 10 years old. No way to keep your old plates anymore.

Regardless, this is a nice hard to find Euro Spec car here in the US.

That’s not true here in WA. For an additional $25 dollars (or there abouts) you can keep your original 6 digit plate. I did it in 2016 for my 2004 R32. Can’t stand the look of 7 digit plates on older cars!!

I was going to say the same thing, if you already have the plate, you can keep it and pay to transfer it.

FS: 1991 500E Pearl Black / Gray, 121kkm, Japan import, eBay (Bellevue, WA)

I have the following Washington State plates from my cars growing up, if anyone wants one for their own car:

BLB 606 (orig Wash green plate)

787 AGK (from my 1984 VW GTI, bought in 1987)

    -GVZ- (from around 1990)

I can do original Oregon (historic and regular) and Texas plates too, if needed.
