Where did you find it? Is there a part number? Engine bay seal for fender? Need more info.

How long is it? Are you missing any rubber on the firewall of the engine bay, on the fenders inside the engine bay>>> is all your boot seal rubber in place? Is it the length of your sunroof? There is a rubber piece that is visible when the tilt function is employed (on the innards of the transfer bridge {my term} )

I suspect it is the rubber of the fender liner in the one of the front wheel housings.

That was my guess too. If there are any small holes, from metal staples, that would pretty much confirm it's from a front fender liner.

    Re: where this seal goes?

Looks to me like part of a firewall rubber gasket. The fender liner rubber (given the U shape) is also a real possibility.

    How long is it?

    Re: where this seal goes?

That's the top edge firewall seal that runs across the top of the (false) firewall and seals against the top of the hood if you ask me.

The seals on the fenders are straight and not flexible.

    Re: where this seal goes?

It doesn't appear long enough for the hood/firewall gasket, and I'm not sure if the cross-sectional shape is correct.

The 036 may have different gaskets at the fender liner vs standard 124, but it sure looks like it might be from that area. Photo attached, note the gasket along the outside edge of the liner (multiple sections, stapled on at the factory).

Thanks for all answers. I will check for fender liner.
    It is around 110cm = 43" long.

    Re: where this seal goes?

If it's almost four feet long, then indeed it could be a rubber seal for the firewall under the hood. A quick peek under the hood should tell you if the gasket is there or not.

Just for clarification I was speaking of the seals that go down the length of the inside of the fender edge from where the firewall meets the fender to the front edge of the fender. This are straight pieces and are often missing from our cars... the W140 chassis cars used them, too.
