FS: Pair of "Flower Bolts" for W124 firewall securing

I have for sale a pair of the rare "flower bolts" that were used in W124 models to secure the inner firewall (behind the engine) together. These flower bolts are often missing or broken, or messed up because of engine heat back there.

These can be difficult to find in the EPC, but the MB part number is 124 821 00 73.

$8 postage-paid for both flower bolts. If you have a 124, these are a good set of spares to have.

    Cheers,
    Gerry

Here is an image (borrowed from the Make-meister) of an .036 firewall with one flower-bolt installed, and the other missing.

The rare short-style flower bolts too! Not the pedestrian long-ones.

Just FYI, if you buy it with the above part number, you might get a flower-bolt that is too long, necessitating the need to cut it down to size. See here:\

Also note that the part can be found in the EPC for several w124s, but not on the EPC for any E500E Thanks goes to Peter Weissman and GSXR here - https://www.500eboard.com/forums/sho...l=1#post136162

Re: FS: Pair of "Flower Bolts" for W124 firewall securing

This is exactly why it's a great idea to salvage OE hardware from wrecked cars -- because the superseded hardware is often incorrect, or does not fit correctly.

Another example is the fan clutch bolt. MB superseded the original hex-head bolt to a Torx-head, and is making it out of cheaper metal rather than the finished, shiny original Allen-head bolt.

Thus, when I see this type of hardware at the yards, I always try to snag it, because you'll never again get it from MB as it came from the factory.

I'll stay vigilant on getting more of these short flower-bolts from wrecked 124s. Indeed, they are more often than not either totally missing, or the head is broken off and the body of the bolt is embedded in the panel. I have a few on hand, but as I come across new ones I'll continue to offer them up for sale, cheaply.

    Cheers,
    Gerry

I think as has been said that only the long ones are available from the factory, but they can be cut/shortened and tapped and tapered to fit just fine. However, I think it's best to get the correct/original part when possible. I'll prioritise getting more of these on future visits to the yards -- I wish I would have known earlier, as I've probably passed up hundreds over the years.
