    Wheel value ? 18" monoblocks

    Hello Gents,

Local guy is offering a set of 18" monoblock amg staggered
    For $250

Wheels have curb damage but are straight.
Forgot to take some pictures while we chatted.

Are these worth the money or headache of restoring.
I do like how they look.

    Thanks

If they are correct offset, $250 is a steal! You’ll need $500-1000 to get them redone to good shape, and then you’ll have a $1,500 set of wheels.

    Appreciate it Gerry,

I'll work on finding the offset. And getting them home.

Forgot to mention wheels are off a e430 w210

$250 is a great price. Post some pics if you can. If you don’t want them somebody will.

The phrase "Off of a E430 W210" does not mean they are really W210 wheels. All that means is that the previous owner had a set of monoblock wheels mounted on a W210.

I cringe every time I see those words in an ad, "Off of a yada yada yada", it means nothing at all about proper fitment. All it does is give false belief that the wheels are really e430 w210 wheels, never except that statement, always doubt and ask for the wheels sizes. I won't even go look at wheels without knowing their sizes before hand. And when buying from a distance, pictures of the sizes cast into the back sides of the wheels is mandatory, I was burned once, never again to believe words without backup.

The only time that may be true is on a one owner car, and the owner verifies that the wheels came on the car when it was purchased new. Other than that, so many people swap wheels around, and many times incorrectly, you just can't trust a claim of fitment, only actual wheel sizes matter.

Hopefully those monoblock wheels you bought are really E class wheels, but they make monoblock wheels for S class cars you know, and S Class and E class wheels are not compatible in general.

The fact that your asking about value, then finding out the ET, then bringing them home, is out of sequence.

    Your sequence should be;
1- What size wheels fit my car - and shop for those sizes only
2 - What size are these wheels for sale, and do they match my needs
(this is where you would ask the question in a forum, example; "the wheel sizes are 8x18et31, will they fit my E500", or whatever car you have)
3 - Then Buy only after you have verified they will fit, and the price is ok.

I've seen so many posters with wheel fitment problems, whose first post is after they buy, again backwards. Rather than ask after you buy, if you don't understand wheel fitment, ask before you buy, and don't make the purchase if they are not compatible.

When I purchase wheels I always ask or look for the 3 wheel sizes cast into the back of the wheels.
Knowing the exact wheels sizes or part numbers is the only way to verify your buying something that will fit correctly.

Good luck, hope these fit for you, and better yet, hope you didn't buy wheels only to find out they don't fit

May also want to check for part numbers on the inside. These could be knock offs. There was a listing for a 500E on BaT where the rims had an AMG decal where the logo is usually embossed.

Re: Wheel value ? 18" monoblocks

Monoblocks are a classic wheel and appear to be getting more valuable as time goes on, for genuine original AMG versions that is.

My 320CE I bought for restoration for total of £300 came with a set of genuine 17 inch HWA 124 AMG monoblocks on it. I recently had them re-finished for £320GBP for all 4x

    Before refurb:

After refurb. (Includes diamond cut rims which can't be seen on the dull day I took the pics)

    20190105_121921.jpg 20190105_121351.jpg 20190105_121432.jpg

Reconditioned sets of HWA 124 monoblocks have asking prices of around £1500GBP on ebay UK so these are getting rare and desirable

Re: Wheel value ? 18" monoblocks

The proper wheels for an E500E are going to be off of an E55 AMG (W210) or 500SL (R129). That’s why I said you need to check the offset to be sure it is correct.

A staggered set of E55 AMG wheels is going to be 100% correct.

Re: Wheel value ? 18" monoblocks

As everyone mentioned above... check the part numbers on the rear. If they are genuine AMG W210 wheels in correct size/offset, that is an excellent deal.

If they are knockoffs, or W140 versions, it may not be worth bothering with 'em. The ONLY way to tell for certain is to read the info on the back side.

As others have said, this is a steal if a. they are real AMG Monoblocks (check on inside) b. they have no cracks (the AMG Monoblocks did not seem as prone to this as the earlier AMG 2 & 3 pieces wheels were). c. they are not bent beyond reasonable straightening effort
I would not hesitate to get them re-furbed if they are real. I had a set of staggered 17" AMG Monoblocks professionally re-furbed and they looked better than new and held up better than new (no peeling like new ones were prone to over the years)
If they are real and you decide not to buy them, please let me know as I will (or I am sure others here will at this price).

Did I miss what car you intend to mount them on?

Great buy, and these are perfect fitment for E500E(W124) or SL500(R129).

On the forums, these are generally referred to as "E55" wheels, not E430 wheels.

No idea if non-E55 W210's have wheel wells big enough to run these wheels, the W210 experts will know.

But if you are going to mount them on a W124 that IS NOT an E500E, you are going to have some sort of rubbing.

Getting a picture from the back side showing where they were made is an ok start, but the pictures that are important to get and show are always the part numbers and the sizes. You quoted the sizes in your post above, and a picture will clearly show this format almost always, "8Jx18H2 et31", and the Part number should be found to be "A1294001902", (front wheels). The larger 9" back wheels should have a part number beginning with A210 I think.

So even if they don't fit whatever car you have, you can flip these in a heartbeat to a E500E or R129 owner. Great buy..

The two piece AMG wheels never had the cracking issue, it was localized to the three piece wheels only.
