    Seller's Description and Comments

if you dont know what this car is chances are you will think im crazy asking what im asking.however if you do know what this great rare car is , based on the overall condition of this car and counting in the low per year miles(roughly 6k per year) you pretty much should know this price is a steal! i have loved this car the entire time ive owned it and have babied it for most of the 11 years ive owned it however the last few years ive neglected it .parking it outside, not taking care of small things that have come up cosmetically etc. but mechanically this car is sound and for its age i think its in pretty great shape overall although not a showroom car. twol things about this rare atomobile that many do not know : only benz handbuilt by porche and only 300 plus were imported !! makes this one of the rarest production cars that not only mercedes built but any automaker has made! -the cd changer has recently stopped loading cd's -the rear sunshade will not go down as im told the gears inside are worn -very small dent on passengers side hood(see pic) as far as i know thats it! this car looks and drives beautifully please come test drive and take it to your mechanic and find out for yourself...its very rare to even find one for sale but ive seen the older 1992 and 1993 500 e siblings with 50-80k more miles than mine being asked for more and low miles version of this go for as high as $35-40k !! please serious buyers only i have taken everything into account both good and bad and lack of space is forcing me to sell my price is ...$11,900 obo CHECK OUT KELLY BLUE BOOK FOR FREE ON THIS SITE TO BE FAIR I HAVE LOOKED AT THE "GOOD CONDITION" NOT EXCELLENT AND NOT EVEN VERY GOOD ...CARS PRIVETE PARTY VALUE IS ALMOST$14,000 !!

Clever picture taking (to not show the wear)

Seems like it could be a good buy at around 10-ish tho. The mileage is not so high.

1994 E500 for sale on EBay 116k miles

Creative two tone. Looks like the car was originally back and the green was added to the upper half.

Trunk badge is misplaced and that's not an 036 front bumper. Hmmm. Plenty of color inside and out.

Pulled the data card on the car, looks like it was originally Spruce Green. Someone did some paint work in the engine bay.

There are so many strange people out there and their cars. This one so far is the most clueless color combo for me. Evo wheels, sportline badge and AMG sticker looks like the owner had an idea about MB so how come he put regular bumper ?

Where is rear sun shade button ? it is missing .

Clean and shiny car though but whats happened with owners mind ....

This reminds me of that other two tone trunk thumper we saw a few months back. At least this guy is a little more realistic on the asking price. Shame this is a relatively low mile example also...

AutoCheck attached. Car was titled in CA in 2011 but not registered since then.

Driver headlight lens is correct, passenger side is wrong. Lack of headlight wipers could indicate accident repair... wiper delete is not common on facelift models. Even with the love it / hate it color mods, if it's straight and rust-free (spent 6 years in VA), could be a really good deal...

    The brake calipers say AMG.
Are those the 334mm on the front?

NO. Stock brakes all around, painted silver, with AMG decals.

    It's an hour's drive away.

I'll go if you pay me $30 for my time and fuel (two hours' round trip driving).

With no traffic, and no construction, and no accidents, it's a full 45 minutes. With the construction going on, and Houston Rodeo traffic this weekend, it was 1.5 hours EACH WAY to get down there. That's THREE HOURS of driving just to get down there and back.

This is one of those typical "used luxury car" dealers who bro-juice out their cars. Right in the middle of "used luxury car row" in Southwest Houston off of US 59/I-69, just one exit off the Loop. South of I-10 and the Galleria area.

Now, for the results. It turns out that the place was closed. I spoke with the car dealer in the neighboring building and he walked me back over to the building, and he confirmed they were closed for the weekend.

I was able to see the E500 parked outside. It was all bro-juic'd up. The wagon was nowhere to be found -- the car dealer next door said the owner of the "bro-juice" dealership was probably driving it this weekend.

Overall the E500 as pretty much as seen in the photos. Hood shaved so there's no hood badge. One correct and one incorrect headlight. Evo II wheels. Brake calipers cleaned/shined up. Nice mirror boots. Logo way too high on the trunk. The black lower section is pretty bad, but it's honestly not as bad when you actually SEE it as it is in the photos. I couldn't see too much into the interior because the car was locked up and had tinted windows, but you know what it is like from the photos. The two-tone is total WTF material.

From what I could see, the paint and cosmetics looked pretty good with the car. As long as decent mechanics are there, and some documentation, I think it would be a nice $12K car all day long. But I think the WTF factor with the cladding and the seats is going to take some money off the price. So I'd say it's a $10K car (if you can get it for that) that is going to need $2-3K of de-pimpifying. Paint the lowers either spruce or gray, and re-dye the seats, and you're good. I'd probably put the hood star back on too and take some dental floss and remove the trunk badging.

I don't get down there very often and usually when I do it's on the weekends, so it's unlikely that I'll have much time in the future to be there during the week to see these two cars.

That's my report. Pictures in the next post.

    Cheers,
    Gerry

Color tastes aside, I still think the dealer has the prices backwards between this and the sibling wagon. The E500 appears to be a pretty decent deal at the current price. One of Ron's flippers might snap it up and we'll see it relisted for 2x...

It is a definite deal at $12K, if the mechanicals are half decent. I'd offer $10K for it but would go $11-11.5. But the de-pimpage is gonna cost. The paint looked really good, but the car was freshly waxed so it was definitely looking its best. I didn't want to hang around too long with nobody there, so I just did a walk-around and snapped the photos, then moved on.

For $15K (including de-pimp fees) this would be a nice example of the breed. The Evo II wheels are a bone-us.

I'd think that someone would snap this up pretty fast.

He had a silver G55 AMG that I was drooling over just a couple of cars away, so my time with this Efiver was a cut a bit short...

If it were me... I'd repaint the lowers, as I don't think the black/green exterior is particularly attractive. It's not terrible though, I could live with it if I didn't have the several grand needed to re-spray the bottom half. But I would leave the interior as-is, really isn't that bad, and the effort to re-dye properly would be rather low ROI to me. Based on the stitching, I'm almost positive at least the fronts have new/fresh leather covers - would need to confirm though. Curious how it drives.

Don't forget it also needs an .036 specific front bumper and chrome strips in addition to any paint work.

I haven't been on in a few days and just saw this post. This place is 2 mins. from my house and office. I should have time to stop by on Monday, but I did click the Autotrader link and it says "no longer for sale". It does still show on the inventory link though. This dealer is a regular consignment place for one of Texas German Autohaus bigger customers and I can tell you that the E36 wagon is his. TGA did the conversion on the wagon. I'm guessing the E500E is his as well, but the "pimp-ocity" of it is not characteristic of his fleet. The guy had 5 or 6 E500Es at one time and I thought his monster G55 was going to be the one GVZ was droooling over, but the inventory doesn't show it. It has been there for sale in the past. He might have $200k in his G55 with all the custom work. My C36 is at TGA now. I'll talk to Hans on Monday and ask what he knows about this car.

FYI - the seller is no stranger to W124s, and the 036 as well. Here is one that he had for sale back in 2012:

Hey everyone, the AutoCheck is attached in post #12 earlier in this thread.

I thought I had attached it when I posted but apparently I either forgot, or the upload didn't work. Fixed now - sorry about that!

Holy crap. I was so distracted by the crazy paint and interior, I totally missed that it has the wrong front bumper.... AND, the existing bumper is warped near the tow hook cover. Major $$$$ to replace/fix. Yikes. Thanks for pointing that out, Glen. The price is making a lot more sense all of a sudden. WTH? Why would anyone do that? Makes you want to go swap some parts around from that green wagon!

I can't imagine doing all those mods and not maintaining the mechanicals. Are those aftermarket tail lights? They look like the ones I took off my '94 E320 parts car. They did not have MB markings and they have the smoke lenses.

Summit Intl Auto, who is the seller of the earlier (silver) car you referenced, is owned by Ray Stasta and has been relocated a couple of years ago from a location that was literally RIGHT BEHIND the seller of the green cars, out to Dairy-Ashford Road. It's a different business.

I've been to the recent Dairy-Ashford location -- I visited & scouted out the 500E that Ray was selling, which IIRC is the same silver one that 600Eric purchased and is refurbishing. I think I actually reported on it here on this forum....

I didn't look at the car underhood or in the trunk, but did examine the interior fairly closely.

The good thing is that with all of the photos here, the car is well documented visually so there are only a few things that I would add in terms of my own description of this car, in addition to Yasin's detailed observations. From my inspection:
    • The car's windshield has been replaced, and has an incorrect "G.Daimler" sticker on the lower passenger-side corner
    • There are a few marks on the AMG Mono wheels, but they overall looked in VG condition. Tires (Nittos, IIRC) were correct size.
    • The car has a few small/slight marks at the corner rub strips, but nothing to get excited about. They could probably be buffed out with a little work. Very minor stuff on the bottom of the spoiler (I'd say less than you typically see, my own car included)
    • The car presented fairly well. On the interior, as has been noted by Yasin, the driver's seat outer side bolster has a hole wearing/worn in the bolster at the stitching. This is common and I've seen the wear much worse in some other cars. The driver's seat also showed significant "butt-wear" which I would say overall is in keeping with the car's mileage. However, a new seat-cover is really in order. The passenger-side front seat is in good shape -- you can tell it's been sat in significantly, but it's not worn or bad-looking at all - just moderately used.
    • The car's steering wheel and gear lever show a lot of wear. The wheel would need to be reconditioned or replaced.
    • The car's windows are tinted, fairly dark. Again, a "suit to taste" type of thing - probably not a bad thing in Houston.
    • The interior wood is of various colors -- some is light, some dark. The gear lever knob is burl wood and is much more faded than the rest of the wood. It either needs to be replaced or removed/refinished and clear-coated with urethane or acrylic of some kind.

I think the car's condition is somewhat overstated by the seller. This is typical/normal, but cosmetically it is not quite up to the level of hype that the seller indicates, IMHO. Although it presents nicely, you can tell that it has 140+K miles on it. I didn't look at the underside of the car. It's obvious the seller spent some good money on a thorough detail of the car (didn't see engine).

Ordinarily, I would concur and put this car at a $15K price. Given the extreme level of work it seems to have had done (I'd want to inspect paperwork to confirm this) I'd personally pay $16K for this car, even $16.5K if the paperwork was all in order and I was able to talk to the mechanic who did the work (seems this was a local Houston car). The place that the previous owner had the car serviced would be important to me too -- if the work was done at Texas-German Autohaus as opposed to the neighboring shop "Benz By Blair" where this car is being sold, which is sort of a back-alley operation.

The car is a desirable color (Brilliant Silver) although the interior being gray leather would be a deal-breaker for me -- I'd have to have black leather with a silver car. (I personally would be OK with gray leather with a 199 pearl black car). I've never been a big fan of the AMG Ducktail spoilers (never loved them, never hated them) but somehow it works nicely on this particular car. Perhaps it's the car's color that just makes a ducktail look better on a silver car than it would on a 199 car.

Overall though, I'd entirely feel comfortable paying $15K or even $16K for this car. I think $17-18K is too high and $23K is waaaaaay out of the ballpark. It's definitely a "driver" that could be kept nicely, but it will always be a driver and thus its investment potential would be very limited. I do think it would make a nice way for a new 500E owner to get into owning one. Mods are overall fairly tasteful/ordinary for these cars and certainly reversible if wanted (i.e. shift knob, turn signals/taillights, etc.). The boom-boom stereo is something that would just have to be there and enjoyed, I guess. This car has plenty of life left in it, and could make an owner very happy for years to come.

GVZ beat me to it, but he is correct about the silver one and Stasta, there were actually 2 similar 500Es that Stasta had and were owned by friends and maintained at Benz by Blair where Stasta officed. I looked at them prior to buying the Shatner car a couple of years ago. The picture background is a party/event place that is 2 streets behind the dealer's location. They also use the church on Unity (looks like a pyramid) frequently that is about 6 blocks away as a backdrop. Dealer is no stranger to E500Es largely because the owner of this car has sold 3 or 4 more that I know of through him and I'm sure he has had plenty of others over the years. I posted about one a year or so ago that was silver with a seriously BLUE interior when I was looking for a replacement for the Shatner car. It was a pure fix and flip deal that the owner must have done out of boredom or "to good to pass up". Michael Roa (dealer) has been around a long time though and is a fairly big player in this market. He wanted to trade me a Ferrari 308 for my '86 911 targa almost 20 years ago. He controls most of the real estate that houses all the other dealers that GVZ referenced in the area. He probably makes more in the real estate than the car business these days.

Like I said, it isn't horrible to see in person. I'd paint the lowers if I bought it, but it's a bit better in the flesh than in photos.

Yep mine was one of those two friends cars that Ray had but he was not actively marketing mine at the time due to some issues it had the biggest being an electrical problem that once the car showed up looked like Benz by Blair had been chasing but could not ever figure out (they were just throwing parts at it). That ended up working out good for me as it appeared that after putting some money into it I think Ray gave up on the car which gave me the opportunity to pick it up for what I feel was a fair price. Anyways I have to give credit to Scott (savmjv) for giving me a heads up about the car since it was off the radar and also Gerry's very accurate description of what is was after he too had the opportunity to see it few months prior. This is yet another example how great this board is as a resource for these cars. Also I have to give TGA a thumbs up for their PPI as again I felt I got a very accurate description of what I was buying. Lastly as for Ray Stasta at Summit he was an alright guy and I would do business with him again. My only complaint which is not a huge one is that he never followed up with the previous owner to get me the spare key, owner's manual / books, etc.

In meeting and talking with Ray for a fair bit of time one afternoon, the same day I saw 600Eric's car in person, I came away with a good feeling and definitely would do business with him. We were discussing a diesel GL that day, as I was considering such for my wife (but ended up getting the G-wagen after it came up).

600Eric, I would NOT give up on getting those books and key -- I believe the PO of your car was a longtime customer of Ray's, so I'd think he'd still be in contact with the guy. Stay on it !!

    Cheers,
    Gerry

ok Klink, I have dental floss in hand and I expect you to rustle me up a star for the trunk so I can take the car out of the garage Monday night with a proper star!

Anyway, hopefully it pans out and I own it by this time Monday.

    Klink are you a badgiphobe.

The way I see it, NO ONE other than the people on this forum knows what a E500E is anyway, so there is no need to be stealth about it. Even at the MB club events only about 1% of the people know what the car is. Smoke 'em if you've got 'em and flaunt it if you have it.

Actually, it has less to do with stealth in my case. I just really like a clean look. But then again, I do find myself attracted to a kind of an "anti-status" asthetic. It was not lost on me that none of the gray market 6.9, 500 SECs, and other such things that I worked on in the early 80s never had badges upon importation, while that type-A, huffing, puffing, bellowing, chain-smoking blowhard that I met on the service drive always had his car peppered with every "prestige" badge imaginable, and even some that weren't. So I guess, I wanted my car to emulate the people that I actually liked, even though I myself do a poor job at that emulation. So, now that you've prompted me to think about it, I guess I really am attracted to the concepts "Speak softly and carry a big stick" and "Power is not having to respond", which kind of makes sense for me personally, because as yet another cliché states, "opposites attract"...

True dat but I'm with Klink. No badge or 300E badge then.U see when you get whipped by a 500E it don't hurt as much as licked by a 300-that hurts.

Indeed. And with the advent of the stick on badges, we had all manner of people sticking 500E badges on 300 and 400Es, and 600/V12 badges all over pedestrian S-classes. It was so common in Florida that I used to say the likelihood of a car actually being a V12 was inversely proportional to its having a V12 badge. I can't even imagine the level of mental illness that it would take to produce such behavior.

I noticed that in Europe the "higher" the model, the less likely it was to have any badge, and that this was kind of defined for each chassis. That is to say a C180 would have a badge, while a C320 definitely would not. The E200 would have the badge intact, the E430, no way. I never saw a badge on an S -class with an engine of larger than 3.2 L. If a European was driving an AMG car, it was usually stripped. Those "in the know" where expected to notice the brake type, and maybe the exhaust tips. Yes, I realize that European "class envy" also drives some of this, yet it is still an asthetic that I appreciate...

This is still pretty much the case from what I see in Europe. Except some cars like the 300SEL 6.3, which usually have their badges. Perhaps 40-50% of the 450SEL 6.9s I see have the badges.

Very few 560SELs I see do.

    The "Goldie" '3-speed 722.3' 280SL R107 did NOT have a trunk badge. Nor did the M116-based C107 350SLC.
