don't see the price on the ad, perhaps it is sold. Nonetheless sounds cheap, but in japan! So duty/vat still to be considered.

    Re: FS: 1993 E60 AMG, Silver, 68.000 km, 15,400 €

    Another interesting vehicle.

Looks like a 94, but then there is that console wood issue again, clearly a earlier piece (maybe it was replaced?)

Correct E60 engine decal (correct for 94/95 model) and AMG trunk lid emblem (correct for 92-95). Other decals are correct for AMG of Japan car.

Wheels are not period correct though, look like 17x10 and 17x8.5" three piece AMG's from a W126.

The AMG exhaust is correct for JDM E60's (AMG of Japan had their own exhaust they used, AMG of Germany used the OE exhaust)

Looks like an extra button in the center console and also has the limo control panel with a extra switch.

    Factory auto dimming mirror

Correct airbox for the E60 as well.

    Very nice!

From decoding the VIN, it appears to be a 1993 model year 500E, that received a full facelift, and a 6.0L engine conversion from AMG. It's always confusing when people badge these as "E60" which that is not technically accurate. Still a nice car of course!

Really? I thought the build date was 10/93?

If it is indeed a 93, then the E60 engine decal is suspect as well, those were not used till model year 1994.

Dunno about the claimed build date, but the EPC datacard and VIN breaks for facelift bodyparts all point to a 1993, pre-facelift production. A photo of the door jamb decal showing month & year would be nice.

This VIN (& evidence in my database) would pinpoint a February 1993 production date, making it a mid-1993 model. Definitely pre-facelift.

Anyone thinking this to be a 1994 model is very incorrect.

    Cheers,

So here we have an early AMG conversion (without 957 code ) but still a worthy car.

Rik - a lot of nice details to know about the E60 AMG.
I have a couple of questions:
    - What makes these wheels specific for a W126? (I thought that set-up were the same for 036 too)
    - What makes the control panel specific for a Limo? (a full switch row maybe?)
    - It has the fader control in the gear console, wasn't that phased out on the E60? (or was it replaced with the central door lock switch along with the facelift?)
    - It has the old buckled inlet air ducts. Was the new'er type introduced with the facelift?

I suspect they were originally designed for the W126 (?) but they happen to fit perfectly on a 500E as well. Real shame they are so expensive, rare, and worst of all... crack-prone.

I think he meant that the HVAC console wood has an extra switch hole now. I did the same in my car too.

Yes, for all real 1994 model years, the fader function was moved to the head unit, and the switch eliminated from the console. US models never got the central locking switch, not sure about Euro models, but even those may have had it in the HVAC console, not the shifter console. This is a 1993 model year car so it still has the fader, and they added a new hole for the ASR defeat in the shifter console.

Good question. I am not sure when the newer style air ducts arrived, or if they were ever used in normal .036 production.

BTW, additional indicators of a 1993 model year are the X11 diagnostic connector attached to the ASR pump, and the early/large ETA connector near the CAN box. Also interesting is that the car does not have the AMG 6.0L EZL, it has the standard 1993 5.0L EZL, possibly indicating it was converted prior to 1994...? I'm not sure when AMG developed/released the 6.0-specific EZL.

    Thanks Dave.

Just a side note about the EZL. I think my 6.0 don't have the newer EZL, despite it is converted by AMG. PN is 013 545 64 32 on mine.

(BTW, do the ABS pump also work on the ASR?)

Interesting... the 6.0 EZL may have only been used on factory "code 957" E60's (and SL60's). We've never been able to find out what was different about the 6.0 EZL anyway.

Not sure what you mean...? On ASR cars, the ABS+ASR pumps are integrated (same unit).

OK, I didn't know that the ABS pump worked with the ASR too. I thought the ASR were a fuel cut-off or something like that.

I agree Arkady. I thinks it's nice of two reasons; - the Japaneze sellers will be easier to get in contact with, - and subsequently will their nice 036s get more available.

So it's a 500E 6.0 AMG then Arnt I have a question by the way, I read somewhere that your car was converted in 1994 right? Then does it have the 381 PS engine or the 374 one? Or none of these, because I read that those were just official numbers and that these engines had over 400 horsepower - the reason for the official numbers was because V8s shouldn't exceed the power of V12s (394 at that time) - don't know what's true or not.

Without a proper PPI its impossible to determine if its even usable...plus, we're going to need alot of info.

Its impossible to find parts for this engine, so a sludge filled engine block or dried up head gasket that will leak oil after driving the car a few weeks means its a difficult buy... do your home work first and check service history...think of prices near normal JAP 500E's if you can't prove much and car has issues.

    Hi,
About what GSXR said : "US models never got the central locking switch, not sure about Euro models, but even those may have had it in the HVAC console, not the shifter console", The central locking switch on my 1994 E 500 is on the shifter console, in lieu and place of the fader control of the previous cars.
