    Arrow OWNER - Rouven036

Hey guys just want to give you a short intro on myself, have been a member on the old ecstsy board but was not a very active user. i m from germany but working and living in the middle east since a few years. own my e since the year 2000. bought the car from the first owner, but that guy is/was a owner of a big construction company so the car had some issues with the paint from all the visits on construction sites and required a complete paint job. i know the car since 96 when i started my aprenticeship as a technician in the local mb dealership...the first owner installed brabus monoblock II wheels, 250km/h delimit kit, brabus muffler and a modified Evo II wing (that was the first i have removed and sold, bought a new US trunk lid for that money (wouldn't do that again, would go for a standard lid instead, but hey we've been all young and in early 2000s it was very trendy to have US license plate stuff in the car scene, in germany at least....)
in 2000 the owner ordered a w215 and sold his e.
also did some upgrades on the interior (leather/ alcantara dashboard, center console and rear shelf, APS 30 Navigtion, Brabus lether/burlwood steeringwheel, G400 CDI (leather/burlwood )selector lever with the V8 emblem a.s.o.), further overhauled engine and gearbox, rear axle, brakes to clk63 (W209).
Only one problem, didn't drove the car since 2007, what a shame.
Have some other cars too, like a Evo I with '89 style dtm slide throttle system, Evo II and a W123 which undergoes a total rebuild with M117 engine.

this was taken before i stored her away:

bought her with the ugly brabus monoblock II

    the screamers

when installed back engine and tranny after overhaul:

did also some porting, polished combustion chambers, installed lighter tappets...

rear axle overhaul, powdercoated subframe, new control arms...

chopped off the ugly brabus tail pipes, turned the cut and shortened pieces 90 degree and welded them back

small things like polished frames of rear view mirrors

    or polished roller blind struts

    selector leaver

    brabus speedo (ugly)

    steering wheel

    W123 in progress

    but engine fits already

sleeping like snow white since over 5 years:

In the very end of this post I attached a photo of the car when it had once the original 8x16 hole rims on

Yes it was a pretty smooth transition from 500Ecstasy to the new site although it took some members a long time to find it. I tried to carry over a lot of elements of the old community (including most of the smilies) to make people feel comfortable

One thing I didn't carry over was the dark blue, foreboding, difficult to read forum "skin" from 500Ecstasy.....

Your cars looks great, Rouven. You have the same front brakes as I will fit, what rim specs did you end up with?

Thx Arnt, the rims are 8,5x19 all around, tires 245 xx also all around. didn't want to fix wider ones in the rear since it doesn't have major traction issues, also makes it possible for interchangability for even tire wear. still want to do the 4piston upgrade in the rear from R171 slk55/clk63 W209.

Hi Ahmed, no it isn't, its a vehicle delivered from my old company when new and only one previous owner. knew the car since i started my apprenticeship there in mid '96.

    regards Rouven

Which 4-piston AMGs are you going for?

The early type is bolt on, need mods on the dust shield only. I am going to fit 330mm and the late style AMGs, approx. same weight as the early style. But it requires a custom bracket, simple one though.

The [rear] calipers from slk/clk63 are bolt on since they have the old/earlier pattern mounting points. Means the version of your first photo. I used the newer dust shield version with a 210 part number iirc, they support something around 310mm maybe even a little bit more. Still little work might be required to get the 330mm discs on. Anyhow brake performance changes quite noticeably in higher speeds (above 200km/h).

    OK, sounds good.

Did you get any noticeable change in pedal travel and feel after installing the front AMGs?

@Gerry: I want to keep Rouven036. Thx for the effort!

Arnt, I have installed at the same time stainless braided brake hoses and did not feel a noticeable difference in pedal travel. The pedal feel is good, mainly due to the stainless brake hoses I think. I hope the pedal travel still remains as it is with the 4 piston calipers in the rear.

Ahmad, yes the car is still here, but I only use it very rarely, like on a Friday morning to go for breakfast with the misses. Plan to ship it soon.

Thanks, that was good news. I was expecting an increase in pedal travel, but steel braided hoses is positive in respect to the issue. It's good for the brake bias to do a rear upgrade too, it will be exciting to see the pedal travel and pedal pressure modulation on the final set-up. Based on your info I am hoping to avoid a brake pump upgrade.

I just ve been in germany and could see the plastic fenders the first time with my own eyes, they are really much lighter than the standard steel ones. About half or a bit less the weigth i would say, just by lifting them for comparrison by hand. Material is quite soft, guess its the same or similar to the body cladding panels.
Main job was to get some shippment from Hamburg and to drive it back to my place...12.9Liter per 100km isn't bad at all

Just went up to max 180ish. amazingly it's revving only around 2700 rpm at about 160km/h. Now I m about to get it insured, all insurances want to get an appraisal report of an expert prior giving a quote!

    Dyno tuning the Beast: http://youtu.be/BclM5IRRdq0
    W123 V8 Supercharged: http://youtu.be/PPtCIp9oA5E

Finally could put my W123 project on the dyno for initial wot afr adjustment . limiting rpm to 5200 due to all new parts, piston rings, cams and bearings... Still running a bit too rich (on purpose) but already putting 356 whp on the dyno in 4th gear. Ignition is only at 14 degrees for now (waiting for some equipment to detect knocking)... Quite happy so far!

Oh well, sometimes all off a sudden dreams come true. Sourced a nice package which shall be delivered soon, main items included will be a AMG LH and EZL module and in case it doesn't get lost between all the packing a nice low milege 6.0 AMG M119. Will keep you posted as things progress. Also talked to Bernard since i want to get some tweaks done to it prior installation...
Further I decided to throw the Mopf bonnet, headlights, clear corners, trunk lid and monochrome tail lights over board and put it back into its original look, including the bumpers and panels in 7700 alto gray. Same time the plastic fender will be installed also will keep the rims (centers repainted in 7700 alto gray matt) and brakes though.

Congrats with the 6.0 AMG engine and other goodies!

...but those plastic fenders, that's not original - you don't need them do you?...

Congrats on the score! Can you please post a photo of the AMG HWA-numbered EZL? I've never even seen one.

    He He...I understand.

I guess the RH fender at Garage van de Velde is still available, but as we spoke about earlier, the LH fender is just as non-existing.

    Re: OWNER - Rouven036

Here some photos of the collected AMG parts to convert my car to a 6.0. I will remove the heads and replace valve stem seals all the timing chain and guides, oil pump, connecting rod/main bearings as well as the oil pan (engine came out of a W140). Since I got it together with the AMG modified transmission I will swap over the valve body to my newly overhauled one. As soon I start I will post photos here...
Only thing I m missing now is the E60 stabilizer bar and the AMG springs/shocks. Hopefully will find them sooner or later too!
To have all information suitable to the car, the new engine number and code 957 got already documented in the vehicle data card.
Also did some research with the Manufacturer and got the exact date of the engine conversion 19.07.1994

    Re: OWNER - Rouven036

SWEEET! Congrats on scoring a full AMG 6.0 setup.

FYI, the EZL shown in the photo is not an AMG-specific unit, that is the standard 5.0 EZL used on 1994-up (USA model year, facelift) E500's. The 6.0 motor runs just fine with the 5.0 EZL, I think all of the tuners (RENNtech, Brabus, etc) used the 5.0 EZL on their 6.0 cars. Speculation is that the AMG E60 EZL has a bit less timing advance. I've never seen a Siemens E60 EZL, only Bosch (click here for photo).

    Re: OWNER - Rouven036

Yes indeed it is a 5.0 EZL. The mystery behind is the following : the rare AMG EZL have a 3 degree retarded ignition mapping compared to the 5.0. On cars which have been converted after delivery the stock EZL was used in conjunction with the nbr 3 plug, which retards ignition by 3 degrees and is therefore the same as the 6.0 AMG EZL. This means with this 5.0 EZL equipped 6.0 cars you have the possibility to tune the ignition slightly by using the standard trim plug . Must try it once it runes with 100 octane fuel. This is also possibly the reason why the AMG EZL are so rare since mostly the standard 5.0 was used, detuned with the nbr 3 trim plug. The whole info is actually hidden in the AMG SL 500 6.0 workshop manual!

During my recent stay I have started to install the wavetrack unit into the 2.65 diff, also received the AMG speedo from a overhaul and adaptation to the 2.66 diff back from VDO. Mostly I worked on my 2.5-16, got it running and installed back the interior. Further I received the tailor made car covers for the evos from Swiss company Corval. I let them stitch the classic Mercedes-Benz Crest and evolution logo onto the bonnet area of the cover.
