MB of Naperville now has an active website

Many of you have used parts.com for years. That0 was a trademotion site that MB of Naperville used to fulfill discounted orders. The other brands that used the trademotion platform had some security issues so MB decided to pull away from them

After several weeks, you now have a new site, owned by MB of Naperville and they are so ready to begin anew. For all Genuine MB parts orders, please consider using www.mboemparts.com. You can search by broad groups, part numbers, VIN etc. It is a different search format than you were used to and expect things like loyalty discounts, additional sales, shipping price breaks and things like that. Jeff and Bob are the same parts managers there, call them with questions as they are truly ready to serve our needs.

Re: MB of Naperville now has an active website

Look, I was the biggest booster of parts.com for many years. In fact I was the person who turned on most of the Banzworld W126 crowd to parts.com back in the late 2009 time frame, including folks like McClare and others who actually didn't believe that I was telling the truth with relation to the discounts that could be obtained at the time through parts.com. See this thread for more details on what I am saying: http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w126...parts-com.html

Many of us have already looked at the new MB Naperville web site. Unfortunately they are now only offering a 20% discount off of MB list price (in some instances, 10%) and this is not as good as other sites, such as MB Asheville.

Naperville (through parts.com) has raised its prices several times in the past 2-3 years. It used to be they were offering prices at 35% and sometimes up to 40% off of MB list prices, and this slid down to MB list minus 25% in recent months. Now with the new site, they had another price hike to MB list minus 20% for most items.

It has been proven that several sites are offering better prices, and thus the following options exist and are better than MB Naperville:

    1) Using MB Asheville, which uses the "old" familiar Trademotion parts search engine that parts.com used to use. Know that Trademotion is an online parts catalog supplier/engine first, and they happen to have their own subsidiary that uses their own catalog called parts.com. That division, parts.com, was the one that contracted with MB Naperville in the past as their MB dealer for fulfilling parts orders that came in through the parts.com ordering front-end. They have agreements with many other dealers around the US for other marques. Naperville pulled away from parts.com because of the issues and created their own ordering web site using another vendor's catalog system (not TradeMotion). But many other dealers such as MB Asheville continue to use the Trademotion parts engine, and are offering much better pricing than MB Naperville's "new" site is offering. Also ... Trademotion recently introduced a new front-end to its parts engine, which some dealers (and parts.com subsidiary) are using. Unfortunately it is a flawed and botched setup that doesn't allow folks to do proper parts searches. Luckily Trademotion still makes their "old" parts engine available and this is what sites like MB Asheville are still using. Hopefully that won't change soon, because the "new" Trademotion parts engine REALLY sucks. You can see it for yourself at parts.com if you check out their MB parts ordering system there.

    2) Use Lionel, as set up by our own star here, Clark Vader. Lionel offers free shipping and excellent parts prices. He is an MB dealership parts guy in Florida. His setup is well documented here, and many folks here have ordered through Lionel and have been completely satisfied.

    3) Use Tom Hanson of the MB Classic Center. Tom is now my "go to" guy for MB parts. He will beat any price quoted (say, from MB Asheville which is already among the best discounts you can get) and he offers plenty of value-added expertise because he is an MB employee, and has around 40 years in the MB parts business working for MB dealers and MB itself. He offers great service, low shipping costs, and for members of this site he will go the extra mile and will meet or beat any legit quoted price. Tom REALLY wants our business and hustles hard to earn it. Plus he's a fantastic guy, to boot !!

Unfortunately, the salad days of parts.com and MB Naperville have passed. The MB parts torch has passed and we have other options these days that are better.

    Cheers,
    Gerry

    Prices are not the best

    Fan clutch for example, 119-200-0122

    Naperville, $696

    Mercedes parts center.com, $650

MSRP is $870, dealer cost is $518

    http://www.mboemparts.com/oe-mercede...str=1192000122

    https://www.mercedespartscenter.com/...&siteid=215720

As Gerry said, my guy Lionel @ Mercedes Benz of Gainsville will beat any online price.

More importantly, free shipping to 500Eboard members, mention this in e-mail and phone conversations when getting a quote.

The shipping is also Fed Ex 2 day. You can even order just a few oil filters

Very well fellas, I was thinking I was doing a good thing here. I appreciate the other info and value the sharing. Good stuff and for record, I use Tom for much more than I got anywhere else. Some just get comfortable with one over another. Good stuff, especially if folks want to hunt and peck for prices. Just a public service so, thanks for your input as I will certainly use your sources too!

Re: MB of Naperville now has an active website

    Louis,

You are doing a good thing and absolutely no one is knocking you for it. Trust me, it was a bit hard for me to make the switch from parts.com but it very quickly got very painful when they went to the new setup, and I actually sent them detailed email messages about their issues, and had a telephone conversation with them about their new catalog.

Separately, my dealings with Jeff Martin and his team at Naperville were always excellent too - no complaints. But honestly it's best to go where the prices are lowest as long as the service is good, and between Tom Hanson and Vader's guy Lionel (who many folks here have used, though I have not yet) we've got some great new options who really want to work with us. And if you can save 10% over what Naperville is charging, and maybe get free shipping to boot .... well ..... choice gets easier.

The great thing is that we continue to have good options here !! I hope this doesn't diminish or dampen your helpfulness. You are welcome to share the wealth with others, no secrets here !!

    Cheers,
    Gerry

No, not at all. The info is great and what may be a revelation to me and a zealous need to share may already be common knowledge. This is why the forum exist, to share expertise and learn. I appreciate it!

Re: MB of Naperville now has an active website

An update on this thread, and on MB Naperville (mboeparts.com):

I needed to get an M104 aluminum coolant drain plug ASAP, and I checked the prices at MB Asheville and MB Naperville on the part number. I was also prepared to just call Tom Hanson to order it. Mainly I wanted to get it overnighted, so that I could get the stripped coolant plug out of the side of the block and the new one installed, and get the G-wagen back on the road. (Long story, but a previous "mechanic" had pretty badly stripped out the existing block coolant drain plug).

Asheville was selling the part for $6.00 even (list price $8.00), and Naperville was charging $6.40. It was EARLY Monday morning (7:00 AM Central Time) and I was at my desk at work, and wanted to get this part ordered before I started my day's work. So I called Naperville and got hold of Jerry Mannino there in parts, who passed me over to Shawn Vargas. Shawn and Jeff Martin run the Internet parts operation at Naperville (mboeparts.com) as well as having previously managed the parts.com business they had before they went off the parts.com network.

Had a nice chat with Shawn. All three of them had sent me order-related e-mails over the years through the parts.com process, but Shawn right away knew who I was and even remembered my home town and state. That was impressive! He said something like "yeah, you've done quite a lot of business with us in the past few years, so we get to know our frequent customers!"

Anyway, I asked him to check MBUSA inventory for the block coolant drain part (to ensure that there were some in stock that I could have rushed to my house) and he confirmed there were 22 of them in the US parts inventory of MBUSA. He told me to put in an internet parts order through their new web site and that as far as he knew, they had overnight delivery available.

Well, I entered the order and it turns out they only had regular FedEx and FedEx 2-day delivery available (which was OK for me), so I selected that. The order was made and done by 8:00 AM.

I got a nicely formatted email from their system indicating the order had been taken and was being processed. They use PayPal for both direct PP payments from your bank account, as well as for normal credit card processing (which was the option that I chose). If you have a PP account, you can use that, of course, just like an Ebay checkout or sending money to a fellow 500Eboard member, etc.

This morning (Tuesday) I got two nicely formatted email notifications that my parts were en route, complete with FedEx tracking numbers indicating that two packages were on their way and due to be delivered TODAY!! That's FedEx standard overnight service ! And sure enough, two packages arrived, one from Carol Stream (MBUSA parts depot) and one from Robbinsville, NJ. Both arrived mid-afternoon Central Time.

Shawn said that their new site has been doing OK, ramping up but he said they are still working out a few bugs. However he said it's coming along and been good so far. Also said that parts.com had a lot of security-related and technical problems and that is why they dumped parts.com as a partner and decided to "go it alone" with their own site and payment setup.

One nice thing is that the online order history, as well as the e-mails received, all showed the actual part numbers ordered, unlike the setup that parts.com had.

So I'd say that Naperville was about 6% higher on parts, but I got better shipping cost than I'd signed up for with the overnight delivery, so I have no complaints on it. I don't believe that Tom Hanson does overnight parts (maybe so, I didn't talk to him to ask) and I have heard a few people say that Lionel has been somewhat slow on parts shipments, despite the free shipping cost. And for me, I do and have always liked getting parts directly drop-shipped from MBUSA warehouses instead of having the parts shipped to the seller, and then all shipped together, which introduces a few days' delay into the process.

This was the first time I'd patronized Naperville since April or so, when they were still on the parts.com network. I probably won't use them for all of my parts orders (seeing as Tom Hanson is invaluable with my gray-market G-wagen), but I will work with Naperville for certain things in the future. Sometimes good customer service is worth a few extra percent of up front parts cost. Oh, and no sales tax paid with Naperville.

Just wanted to give folks an update on another option that I still think, in some cases, is viable.

    Cheers,
    Gerry

even though he ships overnight free it still takes him several days to get the parts to ship out. I just placed an order with him yesterday and was told that it would take several days for them to receive the parts. I wasn't aware that some dealers will drop ship from the MBUSA warehouses. Glad to know there are other options if you're in a hurry for parts.

Then some of your parts were coming from Germany

This is a dealer like any other including Naperville, NO dealer gets parts any faster or slower.

They all get their parts from regional PDC, (parts distribution centers)

I order from Lionel almost everyday for my side business shop
If a part is not in stock, it's 2 days to him from anywhere in the US

Germany is 5 days like my ignition wire crimpers.

Personally, I don't want my parts "drop shipped", I want them
to come from the same place, I get a PDF invoice "before" the parts ship
so I can review the order when I deal with Lionel and MB of Gainesville

And lastly, no one will beat his price, give him a price from any
other dealer and he will match or beat it, and free shipping seals the deal.

    OK Mark,

I found out what the problem was, you gave Lionel a part# that
was in Germany (a hose) but the number was superseded (the 6282?)

This part is in the US, Lionel will have all your parts tomorrow and he is shipping OVERNIGHT at no charge to you. You'll have all the parts Friday

    Case closed.

Indeed, It's nice when you can talk to a live person, and not depend on e-mail

One phone call and I had the gringo's problem figured out

Drop ship is fine, but you are paying for it. In the form of shipping.

And you and all the members that patronize Lionel and MB of Gainesville are welcome
I'm glad I found the deal, as I also benefit from the great prices, I'm just a poor retired MB tech
trying to keep my 034 on the road.

I help whenever I can. Have fun this weekend, that's quite a parts list you have.

Although as Glen said, I've only been on this forum 15 minutes, I work fast.

Re: MB of Naperville now has an active website

A bit of an update on MB Asheville, which had the old Trademotion parts catalog and offered some pretty good discounts for on-line orders in the past.

MB Asheville (aka Skyland Automotive), was recently bought out, and their old website link for ordering and looking up parts is no longer working, and is down for good. They will still offer discounted parts for those wanting them, but orders will have to be made via e-mail or phone rather than via Internet. Contact info for Tracy Lehrke, who runs their parts department, is: tracy.lehrke@fieldsauto.com

I still think that MB Naperville, with its "500EPROMO" free shipping code for members of this site, and no sales tax for Internet orders, is the way to go for most people. I plan to continue using a combination of MB Naperville and of my local stealership, MB of Annapolis (www.getmercedesparts.com) for many parts orders in the new year.

I know some folks here are also using Lionel at MB of Gainesville, FL.

    Cheers,
    Gerry

Folks, just to add to Gerry's comments...I've used MB Asheville for a few years with excellent experience. They ship orders over $50 at no charge ( ground service ) with no special code required. Another thing to note is that they sell genuine MB factory parts not OEM. I think prices are almost identical to Naperville.
    Glad that they're still around.

Regards and Happy New Year !
