yeah i was about to take away the question..cause i figured that out after some thinking but thanx.....is it that written in stone that " a newer one cant be faulty".....?cause i still have some problems with mine...its like "cutting out"...like you turn all power off..and then it comes back on..and at some point the "abs"asr" did not receive can signal from LH and ETA....but i have cleaned up all can connector earth wires..and the battery connection...so now these days..im just driving around alot to see if it happens again.
No, it's not written in stone. A newer ETA can still cause problems if the internal potentiometers are worn. This is relatively rare, but not unheard of. Difficult to diagnose without swapping in another ETA!
do you know of any parts from w129 600sl that fits the 92 500e ?
there is a 1994 model 600sl available for parts not far from where i live...
i think about brakes....suspension stuff...differential...rear beam...and so on...not electrical as that is self explenatory
then ill just leave that thought
no need to bother
abit of a sad update today....
my car has quit running..and the fault that has been appearing some times..is now permanent.
it jerked/quit/studdered one time today...and 10 seconds later..the car died out...could not start it...i got to check some stuff after i got to roll it in to a parking lot...and the fuel pump does not run...and the relay is hot.obviously there will be some heat in the relay .
the other thing i got to check ...as i got the car to drive soon after it died the first time...
it stopped once more after a drive of about 3min....and then it just stopped...tried to start...no start...but it cranks..
there is no clicking in the fuel pump relay.
got a multimeter...the fuel pump relay receives power on 86 and 85 terminal..as it should...
finally got to hook up a tester..and the tester cannot get connection to the LH unit...says check connections..and try again..and i do not get connection with the LH unit...
i get to read the fault memory on the ETA...og EA...and it says no can reception from LH unit...(ive had that fault before when it didnt want to start one morning..)
all fuses in the BM module is new..and well in good order..
does someone know what CAN resistance there is supposed to be in the Can circuit in the modules....all 3 of them..
ive done some quick searches..and found a thread here and there which lead me in the direction of the BM module..even though the fuses are allright..and got power on them...
The fuel pump relay gets a signal from the LH module. If the relay is not engaging, something's wrong with the LH module (or possibly BM). What happens if you force the fuel pump relay on? Do the pumps run normally?
today..i have borrowed a lh unit and a BM module...either of them worked or got the car started.
I did try to run the fuel pumps by putting power to the 30 and 87 pin on the relay holder..and the pump started..and tried to crank the car..the car did not start even if the pumps ran.
The BM module i borrowed ...was a 009 545 91 32...and has just 3 fuses in it..and not 4 like the one in my car,
I have checked that there is voltage over every fuse...but can it still be toast?as it really seems to be a power issue to the LH unit..as the ABS/ASR module has a fault that says "no can reception from LH unit"..
the one thing i think is weird..is that when i measure the CAN circuit in the Egas module..it is 11k ohms..and aprox 6 k ohms in the ABS/ASR module..but in the LH unit..there is what it supposed to be..around 112..120 Ohms.....
does this ring a bell in someones head?
does someone have a good working order EZL for sale ...and maybe Egas..and LH unit?
as i actually have ordered a BM module from somewhere on ebay.
im thinking on just getting some modules..and
Another thing...where excactly does the CAN power feed enter the Can box?my issues really has to be a power to module issue..as i still cant get contact with either egas or Lh unit...
ive been fortunate enough to borrow two lh modules..and two bm modules.from two friends -
Either one of the changes made the car start.
Ive now started fault finding GRANDE..and up til now..it seems that there is a power issue from the bm module two the LH unit..as far as i can see on the wiring diagram..there is a Z connection on the positive wire from BM module..that serves both fuel pump , LH module and another one i cant remember at the moment...with positive power...and on that particular pin on my LH connection..the test lamp just glows..meaning there has to be some kind of power loss somewhere.
i also just have 2 volts on the pin 4 in the 38 pin connector.thats not right i guess..?
on pin 6 in the 38 pin connector..i dont have any power at all..and as i can see the wiring diagram..its supposed to have 12 volts there aswell..
apreaciate any input.though im really on fire on this problem.and gotten the car into its "winterstorage" room..so i can work on it whenever i feel to...so thats kinda relaxing

A bit OT..
In that picture which is taken from the trunk of your car seems that you have unopened set of velour floor mats, or am I seeing correct? Do you really have new velour floor mat kit? If it's really, where did you get it? I've tried to search mats for long time and dealer says that they are NLA.
Really nice car you have, hope you get her fixed!
They came up in here: http://www.sportslinkup.com/shop/0-M...1-GALLERY.html
I recall you were looking for Limited stainless door sills too, I will soon part with a refurbished set.
yes, I'm sorry, Stefan.

'94 E500 Limited, Sapphire black, 288 grey

I bought a nice set of mats from UK supplier (Classic mercedes mats). Only minor fault is that front mats don't have correct metal Mercedes-Benz emblem.
Arnt, yes you remember correct I'm looking for Limited door sills..
jnes : thank you for kind words..its a "rough" time om going through...i really do not like having this kind of trouble with my car.though it isnt a big deal as it sits in a very good storage room at work..and i can work on it wheneever i want to.but i cant rap my head around the measurments im finding at the moment..maybe im gonna just wait for a new BM module..and maybe a new LH unit...and even a EZL unit..and try that...rather than split the entire wiring loom to the ECU "s...
but ..the mats...they are unfortunatly not velour mats..they are the more corse mats..do not know what they are called in english..but still...they are new factory ones..so its better than the velour mats that are in the car as they are not mint
good news...at least for me...but the fault on the car....the "crank only no start" issue..."hiccup issue" is solved
I will reveal later, and im going to out a video where i explain what was wrong with the car Hold on
Here is my little video of my car finally running again..and some explanation of what was actually wrong with it
im soooo happy now
hope you like it as much as i did like finding the fault
Love your video and your joy! Nice work. I was LOL at the "And guess what? It f@c^&$g started!"...

Very impressive detective work.
Glad you were able to get to the bottom of your problem.

thank you veeery much Mr
im super duper glad too that i found out what was wrong with the BlackBeauty
feel free to share the video on sites if there is someone havin trouble with their car.As i think there is far to few videos of w124 500e related stuff on youtube..appart from the ordinaryusual "slideshow videos".. which tends to get boring after youve seen em 100 times.hehe
Good diagnosis! And funny video, can understand how it feels to find such an fault...
W123, W124, R129, W163, W201, R230
Here is another video, where i elaborate abit what the issue was...short explanation what i did to find the fault..and abit on how i fixed it
hope you like
Here is an update..and finally ..no diagnostics this time
Found this armrest...with storage room /phone holder inside.Been looking along time for one of theese..in the right color..as many of them are the beige or light grey ones..so when this came up..i bought it withouth even blinking
So im pretty happy with this
Its abit worn on one of the corners..but i consider it soullike wear marks...though i will try and freshen it up...or maybe retrim the upper part.
Before and after cleaning the inside
I also was bored here the other day.And to make my OCD happy..i found out that i had to freshen up some small details
One of them were the rubber "seals" in front under the bonnet...
The next one..was that my original grill was abit tired looking..or the finish was very matt after years of no attention at all.
So i decided to give eeevery little grillhole a proper shine and give it some smoother finish .can you spot the difference?i almost cant..but in some way i can too

Always love a success story. Watched the videos and felt a bit of me was on the roller coaster with you. Very happy you found the issue. Beautiful car too!
I love your attention to detail.... defenately OCD level

Ive taken some photos alongside the faultfinding on my 1992 500e.
And i thought id share it with you guys..
ill try and explain every picture withouth overdoing just that
The sad ,,but happy day when i got a tow truck to pick up my blackbeauty was a weird feeling driving and see my car up on that truck
The front end of the 124 e500e is just sooooo friggin badass looking!love it
Back where i work...i started pulling out the whole can box..and getting ready to measure the car up and down...back and forth..
This was the state of my BM module. The pin had nothing to do with any engine managment issues...but i had to fix it even though i have ordered myself a spare BM module.
Here you can see where i point..that there is cracks in the solder point..
Heated it up and soldered them back on
Here is my new Z point.Soldered...and soldering it to the pin 12 on the BM module connector
Soldering it on to the connector pin 26 on the LH connector(same row of pins as the CAN connector is located
If you take a close look down there..you can see i route the new wiring alongside the original wiring. The old wiring is just "taped up"..and just sitting there...just in case i find out i want to open the wiring loom at a later point. As explained earlier..i did measure the old wiring and Z point to make shure there is no danger for it to short out something..and that there is no power in the remaining wires/old wiring which i replaced.( Z point wiring)
New power wire to the Diagnostic socket aswell...routed down the same route as the original wiring.
Mounted everything back in there..and voila.work done
And a little mood picture of the blackbeauty on its "first drive out of the storage room" after beeing to the doctor and out in open air
Thank you for having a look

I was about to film another video for you guys here today...but didnt get to do that...sorry ...
I finally caught the bastard or not !!
Saw someone discussing 3rd brakelight here the other day..and i thought i may as well post some pics of my 3rd brakelight.i understand this was an option..and in my car this is mounted..together with the up and down curtain in the rear window, fire extinguisher under drivers seat...and so on..
here is some pics of my 3rd brakelight
And i also want to show you some "mood" pics of my engine bay.Taken the photos today as im just done with the faultfinding..and want to make all the small details right..so the engine bay look good.
hope you like.
Truly beautiful and clean! I hope that one day under my 500E hood there will be also such beauty looking back I have quite a lot to do there.
How long is your E500 driving season in Norge? I have from April to October max here in Estonia. Our road maintenance still use salt on winter time and it just kills the vehicle body
"500E 1992 facelift"
thank you so much yes quite abit of time and money went into the car since i bought it 2.5 months ago.starting to get there really.Ordered myself a new batch of shiny parts today..and looking forward to getting my hands on em
seems like your "driving" season is just the same as here in Norway (Norge from around april to October MAX....as they salt the roads..and its NO GOOD for an old car which is not totallyyy rust free...or any car for that matter.
my 500e is never going to see more winter roads at least not in the time i own the car
the same with my Ford Focus Rs....that one is mint condition.so that car definetly does not enter the winter roads
I clean that car even underneath...with a TOOTBRUSH ..and if you could turn the car upside down..you could use the car as a plate and have your food on it hehe.
thank you for looking and leaving a comment cheers

Well done indeed! I love purity!
.....at least we have warm garages where we can keep our babies and talk to them for 6 months before the spring comes again...
To be honest the salt is not only killing the body, it causes problems in every section that is under the car. As my 500E previous owner didn ´t care about the local weather, I struggled with the wheel bearings exchange yesterday evening until the midnight. All the bolts and fastenings had such a corrosion that the main working tool was a medium sized hammer. I spent 3 hours for changing one rear bearing and I found out, that the whole hand brake system must be also replaced
"...and it whispered to my ear - "No more winter driving in this region, please"
"500E 1992 facelift"
hehehe yeah...good to have the babies in storage..and we go around for six months and drool on the cars..and waiting to get them out for next season i kinda love that feeling when you just see the car sitting there...ready to come out in the spring
yeah the salty roads does all kind of bad things to the cars..not just the rust on the body like you said..even all components under the car is affected..and its not good to see a car that has not been cleaned and just been driven in all weather condition through all of its life...
your car looks very good by the way.are you happy with it to this point ?
I do agree, that on pics it looks already quite good, but the work list is still long. There are many things that needs to be replaced with new ones to make it beautiful also when looking closely. Finally it must be repainted as I'm not entirely satisfied with the previous owner repainting.
....but still, I cannot imagine my summer seasons without one nice and smooth, but also totally crazy 500E anymore and I must say this loud "500E IS THE BEST COMBINATION OF HOBBY CAR I HAVE EVER HAD!"
Even my wife, generally with very high demands in everything and previously only new cars lover, respects the money spending to this car and enjoys every km of the cruise we have. So, this 500E is truly a miracle even 25 years later!
"500E 1992 facelift"
hehehe cool that your wife "approves" though always a good thing.
well...our cars are never done are they...hehe always stuff to upgrade or whatever it may be..to make it even better or stand out from the crowd.so i see your point
I have actually ordered myself some new parts..and they arrived today.and picking them up tomorrow..so looking forward to that..and some picture updates will follow
Heyyy there people
Just a video of nothing really.Out driving my other car today..and thought you might wanted to check out the car..and just showing abit of where i was driving
hope you like

Last edited by lowman; 10-10-2015 at 03:00 PM.
helloo there people
Im back with my 1992 500e ,after accidently deleting my thread..and a bit tireing starting all over again.
Does someone know if it is possible to reopen old threads...if so..please let me know
It's been undeleted.
A little update from Norway
Ive got some more parts today..and i thought to add this on the thread so you people can have a look.
I actually filmed the whole "event" too...but uploading that tomorrow..so a few pics will do for now.
Its the Can Box cover...the old one had the paint coming off..and i just bought a new one..most because of the price..and that it was actually available
Im loving small detail work to enhance the look of the car..and in this case..the engine bay ..looks miiiiiles better i think
hope you like
Damn....your 036 is soooo clean. I'm sure Captruff is taking second looks at your engine bay thinking..."yea, that looks decent!"
So, how did you get the base of windshield mono-wiper looking so new?

i apreaciate your kind words yeah a lot of work has gone in to the car since i got it..and starting to pay off now
The mono-wiper cover is painted in the same color as the car..but all the plastic, the "grills" and such below the windshield,,,they are freshened up with alot of cleaning and polishing ,so it actually looks like new now,and that was my goal so im glad thats shining through
I was abit tired yesterday..so i obviously did not pay attention to the super bad quality on the last update pictures..i see now that they sucked actually

Here is a video of me talking abit about the dreaded A pillar squeek.
hope you like.i shure as h...ll will like it if i sort out the problem
Last edited by lowman; 10-10-2015 at 03:00 PM.
Here are some pics of the work in progress reparing the crack in the A pillar
First of all..cover up the engine bay with a welding blanket...so no weld droplets or grinding dust gets to where it shouldnt
Then grind of all paint and body sealant to reveal the whole crack.
Ive marked the problem area with the red ring and arrow
Then a break to just stand and enjoy the view hehe
And last but not least...welded and put some body sealant on the whole area as i want to make shure no water gets inside the weld ,yeah just to seal it of properly
Doesnt look that pretty with the body sealant..but the paint is not on still...as i want it do be completely dry before putting paint on top..aaaaand in the end its not that visible,,but it does look abit better in real life than on the picture because of the bright light making it look so glossy,,and makin the surface stand out abit to much than it does when its more "matt" finish.
Thank you very much
no i havent ..so in some way its not "over "yet...hehe..but this had to be done anyways...so..but i have a good feeling that its gone
but i will drive it tomorrow and update on how it all went
great job diagnosing the issue and its repair!
car looks great too!
thank you thank you
here is the answer to it all
