Most welcome, btw I had to swap the whole inner carrier over from the old to the new steering. The whole "golden" thing.

yeah,no big issue with the horn bracket itself...but like i mentioned, the problem i had was the distance between the mounting holes in the airbag was different from the ones in the steering wheel....making it an NON ORIGINAL core...

but i was by the way bidding on an SLK AMG steering wheel on ebay here today..but was outbid straight away....damn those nett trolls and autobidders i think

That is stock on the E500E. The second horn is in the bumper near the right fog light.

The 400E/E420 and most all other 124's have both horns up front/center between the fans. Only the .036 had one horn relocated.

    Re: OWNER - lowman (Norge)

    hey there people
Today i have been to a car meeting. It was arranged by the Norwegian SportsCar Club, and it was mainly a "2 seater" "super Sports Car" meeting..with new and old cars. But there were also a demand for "special" cars, and there was this own section with rare cars, and other cars that did not fit the "Ferrari /Porsche/english sportscar genre.

So my 500e fit right in there..and i enjoyed a super nice car meeting with alot of awesome cars
The meeting was held at the local Flight/aeroplane museum. The planes there is mainly old war planes, and jets..but also some old smaller planes..but mainly its war aeroplane related.

After that show.i also went to a cars n coffee meeting..which was rather dull..so no pictures..but i met up with my friend in the Audi RS4..and we hung out for a while..and then drove for a cruise...and the day finished of with some icecream and strawberries.Super niiiiiice

I do not put a description on every picture..as i guess its not really needed

    Enjoy

Registration card for the WINGS N WHEELS car meeting ,and putting my car on its spot for the day.Lovely big ol jet in the back ground

Inside the aeroplane museum, some random pics.and i LOVE the Bell Huey UH1 heli.!!

Some lovely Mercedes cars, SLK AMG ,107 SL, R129 SL
And my car with a super nice CL AMG on right side

You may know this car..if you follow what happens in the tuning scene around the world. Its a World famous Ford Granada, with a 2500hp Top Fuel engine in it.STREET LEGAL
The car is a living legend, and the guy built it..had it for i think 20 years or so...even longer i think..and it started out as a 2.8 liter v6...then rebuilt with a Rover 3.5 V8...and have been under continiously rebuilding..and stands today with this maaasssive Top Fuel engine in it.A fun fact..is that the car is NEVER put on a trailer to go to car meetings...he DRIVES the car to every car meeting he goes too.!!
    Enjoy!!

and then some random pics of some awesome cars of different brands

A friend of mine ,and his SUPER mint BMW E28 M5 1986 model, only ONE in this color,in the production line of the european ones.He won the price for "Best Enthusiast Car"

ONE pic from the Cars n Coffe meeting...only a few nice cars...my friends and my car..actually.
The car on the left is a nice totally original 1991? Toyota Supra, and my friends Audi RS4 on the right

Then me and my friend went on for a long cruise along the North Sea road..beautiful road to drive. And stopped for a chat and enjoying the sun and view.

Finished of the day with some icecream and strawberries

Hope you liked the pics, and thanx for looking on these NON project pics

My guess is that you cleaned the fender area, and applied vulcanized rubber after coating it all with nickel-based rustt inhibitor.

    Re: OWNER - lowman (Norge)

    hehehe yeah..its almost correct, NOCFN

    But here is the answer
Ive taken off the front fender MAINLY because of the dreaded A pillar squeek
It kinda came back on my car..even though not to the same extent as earlier..but a tiny one.And i decided to take off the fender and check the SECOND checkpoint Mercedes wants you to check when having this problem, which is the inner fender panel
I did not find any faults really..apart from one of the panels not beeing welded all the way to the top..so i decided to strengten it while i had it off...but i will release a video in a little while where i show you what i found in addition to NOT finding any cracks in the weld
Here is some pics of my strenghtening repair

    spot welded the panels

    grinded the welds down

    put on some primer

thats how far ive come..will be putting on body seal and paint tomorrow and monday,as i gotta have it ready for when my preventative maintenance parts coming in on tuesday

    thanx for looking

    Re: OWNER - lowman (Norge)

    hey heyy there
im havin fun while finishing of the repair work ive done behind my front fender. And i am also waiting for some parts..so i decided to nerd around abit and do some minor upgrades Both functionality and in the looks department

The vacum lines going to the vacum reservoir ,are going through a little hole in the inner fender panel, and there is NO rubber grommet in the hole..preventing the vacum pipes from rubbing against the edge of the hole.I decided to to something about this...so here is the pics

    Found a suiting grommet

    Fitted it,and no rubbing voila

also ..because of the "detailing stuff that no one can see" type of dude that i am...i painted up the hood spring behind the fender.
Think it looks pretty good...it matters the most for your own sake...you just KNOW that is looks good, and is in perfect condition even where people cant see it

Thanx for watchin ,and hope you liked it.

    Re: OWNER - lowman (Norge)

    A little update here
I am done with the A pillar squeek repair for the second time..and it is SORTED out.The sound is gone..and i have reason to believe it was the hood hinge arm that holds the hood spring..that was loose enough to cause movement and then squeeking sound which went through the spring and into the A pillar.Though i HAVE strengtened the weld on the inner fender weld ,and mounted the fender proper when mounting it back..i still think the hood arm was the culprit. At least the sound is gone

When doing this..i also decided to freshen up the whole area inside behind the front fender.
Here is some pics from start to finish..and i also added a new coolant overflow tank and painted up my vacum reservoar as i could not order a new parts,as it was NLA.

    Hope you like it
Took off the fender, and first look

    Inspected weld and seams

Strengthening the weld..and finished result, before putting on new body seal

Old overflow tank and vacum reservoar

Decided to check the whole seam all the way down..checking for rust..and putting new body seal on,pluss stonechip top coat to unify the look with the rest of the inner fender and wheel housing

Fresh from the factory New coolant overflow reservoar

    Mounted on the car

Also put on a new hose from the high pressure coolant reservoar to the overflow reservoar
Also note the rubber grommet i put in the hole where the vacum tubes come out.To prevent them from wearing against the side of the hole. Also taped them up where they separate to two directions..to tidy it up abit.Mercedes genuine fiber tape of course

Mounted up the fender..and this is how it looks from behind the inner fender liner..tucked nicely up there

    Hope you liked it

    Re: OWNER - lowman (Norge)

    Finally
One of my plans for the car was to get a stereo inside the car..as all the original stereo has been taken out of the car.The amps ,radio unit and cd shifter has been taken out..and left me with only speakers and wires.
So i used quite some time do decide WHAT to do...and i got a hot tip from a friend of a friend of mine..to have a look at these
So i FINALLY got one..and it was ALSO my FIRST Ebay purchase all on my own...and the deal went smoothly..and even got the part 4 days before estimated time..so getting this surprise on a Friday..is just PERFECT

The rest of the work im getting professionally done...the install..as i am NO stereo dude..though it wouldnt be a problem doing it myself..but i cant be bothered dealing with it after spending almost 1000 hours restoring the car through the winter and spring.so..thats how it goes

Behold The high end version of the Continental "Retro" look head unit.
Orange backlighting...DAB+, USB, Cd player,,normal radio.and just the look of it i find very soothing and fitting for the w124"s "style

    Thanx for looking

The problem i have.is that in my car..every connection is cut ,as there HAVE been mounted an aftermarked stereo..or at least they started mounting one.

BUT...all the wires for the speakers are back in the trunk..where the original amps were supposed to be,so there is really nothing plug and play here..at least not on my car..so..thats why im throwing in the white towel..and letting this shop install it for me.The guy ive been told to ask for at the shop..is an enthusiast too..so he will do it proper. My goal is just to get all the speakers to work..and nothing more than that.

I will put out a little video of the headunit in a while

Tip of the day to make the windscreen wiper working smoothly,or if you have a sticking mechanism..this would be a good place to start to "unstick" it
My mechanism is working perfectly..but i wanted to do it as the wiper has not been in much use the last year

    Hope you like it

    Re: OWNER - lowman (Norge)

    hey there
Im so happy today..as i got myself together and mounted up my new Continental head unit.
All the original stereo stuff have been taken out of the car at some point, and just speakers and wiring were left intact in the car
So today .. at least i got to put in my head unit, and for now... its just the front speakers mounted.
I was so tired of seeing that black hole in the center console...with wiring tucked in there. So now..i have sound..and i have the head unit looking OOOHHH sooo PRETTY in there.

Will hook up the rest of the stereo at some point..but at least i got started

Here are some pics of the head unit
The pics does not do the color of the illumination on the headunit,,,justice. It looks abit more yellow here..but in real life..its more of an orange color.

    hope you like

With ignition on,and radio turned on.

    Thanxx for looking

Lowman I see on other threads you would like an Airbox with better silver lettering.

Just a tip- I paint all of mine. Have done this years and once re-done it never fades again. I would it will be very difficult for you to source a good enough used one. Here are a few pics of when I did my 500E lettering recently. I got the acrylic silver paint at a local art store – along with a small high quality brush. Takes about an hour to put 2 coats on but makes such a difference.

I remove the Air Cleaner and set it on a table for painting the lettering in.

    hey man
thank you for tip.I was considering that "job"...but i also have another plan for the box...but it is mainly because of the silver lettering..so abit "stupid" "Wasting" money on another airfilter box..but seems like ill just go that route..as the one i am getting seems super nice..and i can fiddle around making my "modification" on the old box

thanx again for tip yours turned out super good by the way

No problem. Thanks for the compliment- most people think the Air cleaner’s new actually! I fess up right away though

If you get one with good lettering just be careful when washing / wiping around the motor- to keep it good. The lettering is easily damaged that’s all. I was actually able to clean all the rest of the old paint off the lettering / star on my Air Cleaner just with compressed air. That’s all it took to remove the paint it’s very loose on there.

i will take that advice when it comes to beeing carefull on the paint,IF i get a new "used" one
I can see that it might not take much to get the original paint to peel..as there was some left overs so to speak on the one on my car at the moment..and it didnt take much to "peel " it off..so.thanx for advice.

    Re: OWNER - lowman (Norge)

    hey again
    Here is a little update
Ive been wanting to refurbish this part for a long time as it did not look good at all..and i was considering buying a new part..but i thought...what the hell..im gonna refurbish this part..and save me some money

So the part is the bracket that holds the brake wear wiring and ABS sensor on the diff
Here is the part when taken off the car

This is the plastic bit that encloses the wiring inside the bracket.Put alot of degreaser and different stuff on it to get all the grime off

I grinded of alot of rust..and decided to try out the " put rusty part in white vinegar" trick
And i missed out abit..cause idid not get enough vinegar..so i had to water it out..and did not work toooo well..but it worked..but i did not have the patience to leave it over night.so i let it soak for a couple of hours and scrubbed it while it was in the vinegar "bath"

    Plastic bit ready

Put my Permatex rust preventer/sealer on.Works a treat that stuff

Done paintingPretty happy with it.Not perfect surface on the part..but hey..alot better than it was..and i had fun cleaning and painting

Put some grease on the threads to prevent rust

    And mounted it up
    Looks ace i think

I also replaced the brake pedal pad.Bought a FEBI Bilstein part.
And it looks great..appart from it beeing abit different. The depth of the "grip pattern" is different..but apart from that..its a good little part

    Part number

You can see the difference in the height of the grip pattern here..and my old worn one.

Looks good with new part installed.Though i need to get a new parking brake pedal pad..and the accelerator pedal too.

    Re: OWNER - lowman (Norge)

    hey there people
A little update for you here today nothing big really..
But ive been having trouble with one of the door "straps".?Even though all of them are new..ive had some horrible squeeking sound from the one on the drivers door..and today i just got myself together and took of the door panel..to take out the doorstrap and clean it and inspect it AAAND lube it proper
So i guess here goes....though this most likely have been covered thousand times before.. i did a step by step thingy on it..so you can see how its done..IF you have not seen it elsewhere

The doorstrap..just sitting there and not knowing whats gonna hit it

start of by unscrewing that screw and removing the plastic cover

I used a suitable wedge to take of the buttons on the seat adjuster thingy

Take of the outer panel, mine was missing the C clip which is supposed to mount on the "main shaft" which is on the back rest adjuster

Unscrew the two screws holding the seat adjustment thingy

Pry of the cover surrounding the door handle.be careful not breaking the plastic tabs

Revealing the screw with 10 mm head ,holding the upper door handle secure onto the door plate

Remember to unhook the connection rod to the inner doorhandle, and when that is done..you can slide the doorhandle to the right in the picture..the direction that im pointing my finger

Slide to the right and take out the doorhandle

Taking of the inside cover for the door mirror...i broke a tab on it..but managed to glue it back on with super glue..and i lubed up the pin ,so it would not take so much force sticking it back on there..and even not much force to get off the cover at a later stage

    EDIT
When every bolt and fastener is loosened and removed...the doorlining/panel is removed by sliding it UPWARDS,Important that you do not try to pull it outwards...cause then you will break the slide clips thats glued onto the doorlining. So remember...slide the doorlining UPWARDS..takes abit of wiggling as it can stick abit to the rubber sealer thingy that lies against the window, between the doorlining AND the window

Happy to see that the original membrane between the door and the doorpanel was still there.

Careful when peeling it off, dont wanna break it

Removing boot that covers the fastening of the hinge inside the A piller, and remove the bottom C clip to unattach the fastening bolt.drag it upward. You might wanna give it a thump with a small hammer

    Remove to bolts...10 mm heads.

Remember to remove this bolt,10 mm head

Take out the doorstrap, its a long way in there

    Finally out

Pretty dirty grease..and i could actually see metal particles in the grease/oil

    Cleaned up

Time for a little ice "cream"

    Greased up

Everything put back together..obviously in the reverse order

A little confused Door strap..that did not know what just hit it

And by the way....the squeeking sound went away...so mission accomplised
    Thanx for looking

The un painted unit gave it away. Good chance to lube the regulators, vac out the debris in the bottom of the doors, clear the weep holes out and knowing you...spray a coating of rust inhibitor inside the door

    Re: OWNER - lowman (Norge)

    By the way..a little update
im renovating my driveshafts..and ive ordered new boots from The UK
    and..the outer boots..you can use a specific w210 number.and the inner boot is a r129 part
I ordered TWO Febi bilstein outer boot kits(210)...and the inner boot was only available as a Meyle part.so i took a chanse.
BUT ..today..i got the parts..and the outer boot..the Febi bilstein part looks like this The box..and parts number

and i dug into the box..and i was surprised and after a couple of seconds..i was pretty happy It seems that it is an original part..where they grinded away the original parts number

For the inner boot..i know people are gonna cry when i said the brand was Meyle .BUT...to be honest..i cant find any "flaws"to it...it does not SMELL of that cheap chinese rubber smell either. The two different boots...feel like the same quality..and the feel of them are just the same.so im happy

Stay tuned for tomorrow..i will post some updates thanx for looking

It is not an original Evo..unfortunatly in a way.(if it was ..i would have to sell my parents..and that is not happening
It is however, an original 1989 Mercedes Benz 190e 2.5-16,lowmiler compared to many other 178000 km,with full Evo bodykit and some other stuff aswell.600SL brakes front n rear.Bilstein/HR combo suspension.\++++.
Its been restored in the way that the whole body has been restored.so no rust, and a nice underbody.More pics will follow at some point
